Have you ever wanted to catch a corbina or maybe, even see one?
Ever wonder why some anglers walk the beach with a dish pan attached to their waist?
What does "sight fishing" actually mean?
Why do corbina fly anglers passionately chase a fish they rarely catch?
Well, here's a chance to answer those questions!
A Day of Corbina . . .
Will be hosted on Saturday, July 16, 2022 by the Southern Sierra Fly Fishing Club.
Kesley Gallagher, Scott Leon and Chiaki Harami will be assisting you to finally see the enigmatic ‘ghost of the coast’.
Class is limited to 15 club members due to the difficulty of the fishing; small numbers will help with guiding/instruction. The group will be divided among three beaches just north of Ventura.
IF you are not a club member at this time, consider joining the club for the small yearly fee of $25 so you can sign up for this “once a year” fly fishing event!

At 6:00am - ALL PARTICIPANTS will meet their group leader at Rincon Beach by the picnic tables/bathrooms. Participants will meet their group leader at an assigned beach between 6 - 6:15 AM to catch the rising tide and scout the beach for fish.
High tide is at 1:03 pm and fishing will become very difficult at that time so we will wrap things up around 11:15/11:30 and meet for a group lunch (no-host) at 12-noon at Padaro Beach Grill, 3765 Santa Claus Ln, Carpinteria, CA 93013
After lunch, participants are encouraged to continue fishing and practice their new skills!
Pre-Fish Meeting:
A pre-corbina day meeting will be held on Zoom on ___________at 7pm.
The meeting will go over important points, where to meet, and any questions participants may have.
Warning:
Sight fishing for corbina is addictive.
You will get sandy
Be prepared to walk a few miles
What to bring:
6 or7wt. rod
Anondized reel is recommended
Full sinking line (no intermediate line and no floating line—these do not work in the surf)
8- to 12-pound fluorocarbon (preferable) leader/tippet material (most leaders are 8’)
Stripping basket
Pink surf merkins size 6
Light jacket (mornings will be in the low 60s)
Polarized sunglasses are required (copper or brown preferred)

What to wear:
Shorts (waders are not necessary)
Fishing shirt with UPF (no reds or dark colors, please)
Buff
Hat (dark underbrim is preferable)
Sunblock
Beach/water shoes/flip flops (useful for getting to the water, but once on the beach they are optional)
Sling pack or chest pack (hip packs are discouraged as they will get in the way of your stripping basket)
Sunblock
Snacks and water in your pack as needed
