A Day of Corbina
Have you ever wanted to catch a corbina or maybe, even see one? Ever wonder why some anglers walk the beach with a dish pan attached to their waist? What does “sight fishing” actually mean? Why do corbina fly anglers passionately chase a fish they rarely catch? Well, here’s a chance to answer those questions!
A Day of Corbina will be hosted on Sunday, August 22 by the Southern Sierra Fly Fishing Club. Kesley Gallagher, Scott Leon, Randy Skidgel, Carole Ontiveros, and Chiaki Harami will be guiding you to finally see the enigmatic ‘ghost of the coast’. Class is limited to 15 people due to the difficulty of the fishing; small numbers will help with guiding/instruction. The group will be divided among three beaches just north of Ventura. Participants will meet their group leader at an assigned beach between 6 - 6:15 AM to catch the rising tide and scout the beach for fish. High tide is at 10:40 am and fishing will become very difficult at that time. A group lunch will be at a local restaurant at 11:30 AM, details to be provided to the attendees in a follow up email. After lunch, participants are encouraged to continue fishing and practice their new skills!
Pre-Fish Meeting:
A pre-corbina day meeting will be held on Zoom on August 18 at 7pm. The meeting will go over important points, where to meet, and any questions participants may have.
Warning:
Sight fishing for corbina is addictive.
You will get sandy
